Igniting Minds
On this Teachers Day, I am reminded of one of the great thinkers and visionary that our country knew as 'The People's President' - Dr A.P.J. Abdul Kalam. It is true when people say that you do not realise the worth of things as long as it is with you. The moment you lose it, is when you start searching for it. Dr Kalam has left a void that will be very difficult to fill in the coming times. Or I don't know if it will ever be filled.
His devotion, commitment, love, dedication, humbleness, and many more qualities have taught us much. It was through his actions that we learnt it all from him. Though he did not preach or teach he taught us so much. It is for all of us to learn this from him.
He did all this in the very times that we are living in. Generally, when we read of a man who was great in his times, we shrug off our responsibilities by saying that times then were easy, not now. But for Dr Kalam, he lived with us in the very same village, city, country, world that we are living in. He has set a very good example of how we can overcome obstacles and opposition through our work and commitment.
One thing that touched me most through readings of his life incidents is that he did everything in life as a matter of duty. His duty towards work, colleagues, fellow beings, environment, his country and the world at large. He did not take anything for granted. When we take things for granted,we continue to exert a feeling of magnanimity. Its a favour on the student when I teach them well. But when it is a duty then I am committed to teach them well. I learnt this from Dr Kalam.
Dr Kalam has left for us a rich collection of ideas through his books. The first book that I read of his was 'The Ignited Minds'. Here I attach a link to the preface of his books that we can all refer and read the book if not yet read.

What will stay after us on this earth
This is an interesting representation of what traces would remain much after the humans have gone from the earth.
